Just like old-world traditions, Oriental Rug Specialists, Inc. was formed through marriage, by two master antique rug cleaning and rug repairing families.
Mr. George Berberian was a foremost expert on Oriental Rugs, who traveled all over the Asia Minor, the Middle East, and Asia to buy and sell oriental rugs, and bring those rugs to people living in the United States. Over the years, he constantly strove and perfected the art of rug cleaning and rug repair, and commanded the respect as a guru of the oriental rug and carpet industry. George’s family owned and operated business thrived through his expertise and dedication to customer service.
George’s dedication and love of all things rugs, brought with him the saying, “These rugs are Artwork,” whenever he spoke with clients. His mastery was sought out and became affiliated with Einstein Moomjy’s retail; his relationships and love for people was how Einstein met Moomjy. Thus, he trained and supervised family members in all areas of rug cleaning, rug repairing, rug restoration, appraising, and consequently, carried on his invaluable advice and knowledge.
While George lended his expertise and presence, Haig Chobanian's family had been in the Oriental Rug business in the Chicago area for many years under the name of the Choban Rug Cleaners, which is where Haig developed his love of Oriental rugs accumulating much knowledge from his grandfather. When the two families merged, Haig was so admired by many for his knowledge and advice, that he was asked to speak at many events to share his expertise. Sandra Chobanian, his wife, was very involved with rug restoration and appraisals throughout the Metropolitan area and is still actively doing so. Together with family members Oriental Rug Specialists has become one of the foremost names in the rug business as evidenced by their online reviews.
